Day 1

Friday, March 11, 2022

5:00 PM EST: Opening Ceremony ~ Virtual Click to Join

  • Opening Remarks, introduction to event, including a brief overview of the problem statements students will be “hacking”

  • Keynotes from the Dean of the Faculty of Environment,  Jean Andrey, and Theresa Yung, BCG Associate

6:30 PM EST: Decolonizing Methodologies ~ Virtual Click to Join

  • Virtual talk from Dr. Ranjan Datta, Professor at Mount Royal University, around Indigenous voices and decolonization

  • Some parts may not be recorded as it involves deep personal conversations among participants

 

7:30 PM EST: Networking + Social ~ In-Person 

  • Location: UW SLC Multi-Purpose Hall

  • Opportunity for participants to network in a social setting

  • Activities to foster relationship-building between and across teams

  • Free Merch Distributed

  • Food Available:

    • Bubble Tea from Sweet Dreams

    • Other packaged baked goods

  • Opportunity for participants to network virtually on the day of the event for last minute team forming or just some light-hearted fun

 

10:00 AM EST: Problem Definition Workshop Virtual Click to Join

  • Examples and starting points to define problems

  • Tools and processes used to define a problem

 

11:00 PM EST: Hackathon “begins” 

 

1:30PM to 2:30PM EST: Deeper Dive into Problem Questions Q&A Virtual Click to Join

  • Recorded + shared over Discord

  • Different sessions taking place at the same time for individual problem statements

  • Problem partners (organizations who have provided problem statements) will provide a deeper dive into the problem, context and background:

    • Workshop on naturalization and office sustainability by UW Sustainability Office

    • Workshop by Climate Reality

    • Workshop by WISE

    • Workshop by Greenhouse

  • Participants get a chance to ask questions

 

4:00 PM EST: Check-in with Problem Partners
